Pie Ranch Writing Medicine Workshop
Nov 6th, 2021
Join us for the first in-person meeting of the Writing Medicine Community, a group of healthcare professionals and their loved ones committed to writing bravely about what matters most.
Attendees will eat delicious fresh food (including homemade pie!), write, and reflect at one of the most beautiful working ranches in Northern California.
November 6th, 2021 • 9:30am-4:30pm • Pie Ranch, Pescadero, CA
This workshop is open to healthcare professionals and their loved ones. Attendees are not required to do patient care but preference will be given to members of the Writing Medicine Community. Coffee, tea, snacks and a delicious lunch will be provided. Attendees will receive instruction in how to communicate more powerfully, authentically and persuasively on the page; have opportunities for solitude and togetherness; share work aloud, and respond to the creative work of their peers. We hope you leave feeling fulfilled in body and spirit, with new tips and tricks for communicating more confidently with colleagues, family, public audiences, and yourselves.
FAQ
-
What do I need to bring?
Something to write with (notepad and pen) or a fully charged tablet or laptop. Also, warm layers in case it gets chilly and shoes that are solid enough to tromp around in at the ranch.
-
Can you explain the sliding scale pricing?
We have been offering free reflective writing sessions since March, 2020. Charging those who can afford to pay the top of the scale allows us to keep offering virtual workshops for free and invite trainees and others with less financial resources to attend our in-person events.
-
I want to publish my work. Will you help me figure out how to do this?
Absolutely. Laurel doesn’t believe you need to publish your work in order for it to matter, but if that is something you would like to do, we will spend some time covering best practices for pitching your work to editors and agents.
-
I work in healthcare but I don't see patients. Can I still come?
YES. Medicine is a universe and health requires a village. As long as you work in healthcare in some capacity or love someone who does, you are welcome to join us.
-
I'm coming from far away, where should I stay?
There are a few options in Pescadero (we recommend Pigeon Point Hostel as an affordable and fun option). Half Moon Bay has a range of options from the ultra-luxurious to the quite affordable, and so does Santa Cruz. The ranch is also a reasonable drive from San Francisco, Palo Alto, and San Jose.

I've never attended a Writing Medicine session, can I still come?
Shame on you. Just kidding. Yes, of course you are welcome.
